Ukrainian and Russian law enforcers are jointly investigating the criminal activities of a large gang that includes around 400 members.

“My trip to Moscow is linked with the investigation into crimes connected with banditry in Ukraine,” First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Renat Kuzmin said on the Echo Moskvy radio station on Wednesday.

He also said that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (PGO) is investigating several criminal cases related to the activities of gangs.

“This gang includes around 400 members. We are combating this gang. Some members of this gang have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment, and some of them left Ukraine for Belarus or Russia. Some members of this gang were detained and arrested by the Russian special services, particularly on suspicion of having organized murders in Russia. That’s why I came to meet with the Investigative Committee of Russia,” Kuzmin said.

“We cooperate very closely to investigate these crimes. The criminals attacked state institutions, agencies and citizens [in Ukraine]. This gang committed blackmail, and traditional armed robberies, which are the usual activities of gangs” he said.
