Prosecutors in Ukraine-controlled Donetsk Oblast have filed murder charges against two Ukrainian soldiers accused of shooting two women in the head.
The murder
allegedly took place on June 15 in the Artemivsk district of the oblast, where
two soldiers barged into a residence in which they believed separatist
collaborators lived, according to a statement released by prosecutors. The servicemen, aged 23 and 25,
then allegedly shot a 77-year-old woman and her 45-year-old daughter in the
head, the statement said.
Both suspects are in custody. No further
details on the victims or the incident have been released.
The
soldiers – whose identities have not been disclosed – confessed to the crime. They face up to life in prison on the charge
of premeditated murder.
A decision
is now pending on whether the case will be handed over to military prosecutors.
