Two Ukrainian tourists, who fell off a cliff on Mount Elbrus, are alive, although one of them is in a serious condition, reads a statement posted on the Web site of the main office of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in Kabardino-Balkaria. 

“As of 12:50 [Moscow time] rescuers found the injured tourists. They are alive. According to rescuers, one of the injured persons is in a serious condition,” reads the statement.

The work is currently going on to transport the victims to the rescue base. Seven rescuers with special equipment were involved in the rescue operation.  

The office’s spokesman, Murat Apazhikhov, told Interfax that rescuers had reached a group of eight Ukrainian mountaineers.

“Two of those who fell off [a cliff] are alive,” he said.
