Subdivisions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other special forces involved in the forceful operation in eastern Ukraine have freed the villages of Karlivka, Netailove and Pervomaiske in Donetsk region, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry posted a statement on its website on July 23.

“The Ukrainian flag was raised over local administrations… Ukrainian
troops continue to surround Donetsk from all sides,” the document said.

“Battles are now being held in Lysychansk [in Luhansk region],” the Defense Ministry said.

The villages of Karlivka, Netailove and Pervomaiske are north-west of
Donetsk in close proximity to the regional center. Lysychansk forms the
single Lysychansk-Severodonetsk metropolitan area together with
Severodonetsk and Rubizhne.
