Ukrainians have named the main political event of 2014 - the Revolution of Dignity, the politicians of the year - President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, disappointment of the year - former president Viktor Yanukovych. 

These are the results of the poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic
Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center, Director of Sociological Service
at the Razumkov Center Andriy Bychenko said during a press conference in Kyiv on Dec. 29.

According to the poll, 40.8% of the surveyed Ukrainians said that Maidan and
the Revolution of Dignity were the main event of the year, 30% – the war with
Russia, 5.3% – the presidential elections, 4.6% – Crimea’s annexation, 3.1% –
the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine, 2.1% – signing of the
EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, 1.5% – the destruction of Viktor Yanukovych’s
regime, 0.8% – the breakup of and shootings at Maidan, and 0.4% –the civil war
in Ukraine.

Bychenko specified that those surveyed came up with the answers to the
question on their own; there were no options offered.

A total of 5% of the respondents hesitated to answer, and 0.7% more believe
that there were no significant events in 2014.

Bychenko noted that the respondents separately named the war with Russia, ATO
and civil war. The majority of the Ukrainians, however, don’t see events in
country’s east as a ‘civil war.’

A total of 25.5% of respondents named Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s president,
as the politician of the year, 14.7% chose Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Other politicians received the following results: leader of the Radical Party
Oleh Liashko – 4%, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy – 2.9%, former Chairman of the
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov – 1.7%, leader of Batkivschyna
all-Ukrainian union Yulia Tymoshenko – 1.4%, leader of the Civil Position party
Anatoliy Hrytsenko – 1.2%, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko – 1% and commander of
Maidan’s ‘sotnia’ (company) Volodymyr Parasiuk – 1%.

The disappointment of the year was the fourth president of Ukraine Viktor
Yanukovych (32.4%). The answers also included current president Poroshenko
(17%), Prime Minister Yatsenyuk (8.6%), Liashko (5.4%), Tymoshenko (3.4%),
Klitschko (3.3%), leader of Svoboda party Oleh Tiahnybok (2.7%) and Turchynov
(1.6%).

A total of 2,008 respondents were surveyed in all the regions of Ukraine
except for Crimea. The poll’s margin of error was 2.3%.
