Ukrainian citizens were not injured in yesterday's armed attack on the building of the Canadian parliament, in which a soldier standing guard at a war memorial and one of the attackers were killed, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.

“A group of 33 Ukrainian students are on training at the Canadian parliament. According to our embassy, none of them was injured in the shooting. Everyone is safe,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis told.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, in turn, expressed his condolences over the incident.

“I am mourning with Canadians today after the shooting in Ottawa. We, Ukrainians, share the pain of our Canadian friends, brothers and sisters,” he wrote on his Twitter page early on Oct. 21.

As reported, on Oct. 22, a native of the Canadian province of Quebec, Michel Zehaf-Bibeau, opened fire on the soldiers standing guard at a war memorial in Ottawa and then in the building of the Canadian parliament.

The attacker was shot dead by police inside the parliament building. According to witnesses, about 30 shots were made.

According to Canadian doctors, three more people injured in the shooting have already been discharged from hospital.
