Ukrinterenergo (Kyiv) from June 1 started the supply of electricity to Crimea at market prices, according to the press service of the company.

“From June 1, 2014 Ukrinterenergo started supplying electricity to energy supply companies operating on the occupied territory of Crimea under bilateral contracts of sale and purchase. Specifically, an agreement was signed with DTEK Krymenergo on electricity supply,” the company said.

Ukrinterenergo purchases electricity on the wholesale electricity market of Ukraine at the tariff set by the NCER at the level no lower than the wholesale market price.

“All electricity will be supplied at market prices as for commercial customers. The transfer from June 1, 2014 to the new format of power supply to the occupied territory of Crimea will allow Ukraine by the end of the year to save about UAH 1.6 billion in the form of subsidies,” the press service said citing Director of Ukrinterenergo Volodymyr Zynevych.

According to the press service, the average monthly volume of electricity consumption in Crimea is 462 million kWh.
