The state-owned Donetsk Plant of Chemical Products was severely damaged by a shell that hit its ammunition depot on Sept. 21, the press service of the Ukroboronprom state concern reported.

The plant’s director, Mykyta Samokish, said on Ukroboronprom’s Web
site on Sept 22 that the explosion was equivalent to almost 3,000 tonnes
of TNT.

The plant was empty, therefore no fatalities occurred, Samokish said, adding that all safety standards were duly observed.

No details were provided about how seriously the plant was damaged.

A shell hit the plant on Sept. 20. No information is available about the direction from which the shell had been launched.

The Donetsk State Plant of Chemical Products fills weapons with
explosives, manufactures industrial explosives and scraps ammunition
intended for firearms and artillery systems, as well as engineering and
naval ammunition.

The plant has been part of the Ukroboronprom state concern since 2011.
