Public joint-stock company Ukrtelecom was surprised at accusations by Kyivstar that it is discrediting the holding of a tender to receive UMTS (3G) licenses with its participation in it, the press service of the operator has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“We’re perplexed by the statements of some operators that the submission of bids from the bidders could discredit the tender itself and affect the conditions or the terms of its holding. We believe that such statements show that some operations want to avoid a civilized competitive procedure and not to pay a market price for the license. The participation of several players in tenders is a guarantee of the impartiality of the holding of the tender,” the press service said.

Ukrtelecom added that the company is mulling various options for using the additional radio frequency bands.

“At present, taking into account the current economic situation in the country, it is better to build a single 3G network of a large capacity. The increase in the radio frequency bands allows the expansion of the possibilities that the operator is providing to clients. Some European countries chose the said scenario, for example, the Scandinavian countries. There are other commercial scenarios which could be realized to satisfy the growing demand of consumers for high-speed access to the Internet network,” Ukrtelecom said.

As reported, earlier Kyivstar accused Ukrtelecom of delaying the UMTS (3G) tender, discrediting it and artificially worsening the licensing conditions by submitting a bid to participate in the tender.
