The losses of State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia from cargo theft were Hr 5 million in January through November 2009, according to a press release by the administration.
"The Verkhovna Rada on Jun. 4, 2009, adopted a law on amending the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Law Infringements and the Criminal Code of Ukraine concerning the strengthening of penalties for property theft," the press release reads.
According to the press release, Ukrzaliznytsia proposes that the penalties for unauthorized interference in the work of the railways be increased.
