You're reading: UN: At least 4,700 killed in conflict in eastern Ukraine

At least 4,700 people have been killed and more than 10,000 have been injured in the conflict in eastern Ukraine since April 2014, the UN tweeted. 

The UN said that the number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine had exceeded 610,000 and another 594,000 have fled to neighboring countries, mostly Russia.

It also said that the UN Security Council might hold a meeting dedicated to Ukraine in January at the request of delegations of the United Kingdom and Lithuania, the UNSC chair country.

The UNSC had its latest debate on Ukraine at an open meeting on Nov. 12, 2014.
