During a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed support for Poroshenko's initiative regarding peaceful settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine, according to the president's press service.
“In particular, he stressed the importance of establishing a 10 km
long buffer zone on the Ukrainian-Russian border,” reads the statement.
In turn, the President expressed gratitude to Ban Ki-moon for the
position of solidarity. He also expressed a decisive intention to
continue, “taking active measures aimed at the settlement of the
situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”
It is also stated that Head of State informed UN Secretary General of
numerous violations of the cease-fire regime and stressed the
importance of conveying this information to the international partners.
“Petro Poroshenko emphasized that one of the key elements of the
peace plan is decentralization of power, and he intends to make
respective amendments to the Constitution in the nearest time,” reads
the statement.
According to the press service of Ukrainian president, “the parties
agreed to establish a format of new partnership between Ukraine and the
UN, particularly to maintain constant connections.”
