The United Nations is keeping the situation in Ukraine under constant review and is considering ways to provide additional assistance, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman said during a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletei.

“UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman noted that the situation in Ukraine is under constant review by the UN Secretary General and the UN is currently considering additional ways to help Ukraine, including the possibility to start new missions in case of relevant request from Ukraine,” the Ukrainian Defense Ministry press office said in a statement on Aug. 21.

During the meeting Heletei informed Feltman about the situation in eastern Ukraine and measures being taken to bring peace to the east of the country.

The Ukrainian defense minister has thanked the UN for supporting Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s peace plan, and its readiness to provide assistance in preventing a humanitarian catastrophe in eastern Ukraine and holding a UN monitoring mission on human rights in Ukraine.
