You're reading: US embassy in Russia doesn’t confirm Kerry visit to Moscow next week

Moscow – The U.S. embassy in Russia has denied the information on preparations for a visit by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to Moscow in the firs week of February.

“We are not preparing for a visit by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry next week,” an official with the U.S. embassy in Moscow told Interfax on Jan. 30.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry may come to Russia at the beginning of February for negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

A Russian diplomatic source said earlier on Friday Kerry may come to Russia in the first week of February for negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“Such a probability exists. However, it is not 100 percent,” a Russian diplomatic source told Interfax.

Obviously, the situation in Ukraine and Russian-U.S. relations will top the agenda for a possible meeting in Moscow.

The source also suggested that Kerry could visit Moscow ahead of the Munich Security Conference, where he would be a member of a U.S. delegation to be led by Vice President Joe Biden.

Lavrov will head Russia’s delegation to the Feb. 6-8 Munich conference.
