You're reading: US official: US not interested in confrontation with Russia

The United States is not interested in a confrontation with Russia, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns said at a news conference in Astana on May 8.

The U.S. made it clear it is not looking for a confrontation in Russia and the U.S. believes this is deeply in the interests of Ukraine and Russia that Moscow and Washington have healthy relations, which are based on centuries of cultural and social ties, and the same thing can be said about other neighbors of Russia, Burns said.

But as long as Russia continues following a dangerous path, the U.S. will continue to work with its international partners, he said.
