U.S. Senator John McCain has said that the current Ukrainian authorities should prepare for holding the presidential elections on May 25 in accordance with the planned schedule.

“The government must also prepare the country for elections on May 25. During our visit we’ve heard overwhelming support for proceeding with elections on schedule and we believe it’s critical,” he said at a press conference involving eight U.S. senators in Kyiv on March 16.

McCain said that the Ukrainian government was legitimate, constitutional, and, in his opinion, it has an important popular mandate for change in the country.

Snap presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled for May 25.
