The United States supports Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in the country, White House spokesman Josh Earnest has said.
“The United States has been very clear in our support for President
Poroshenko’s efforts to bring peace and unity to Ukraine. President
Poroshenko has been clear since he took office that he is committed to
finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis, and he has offered to grant
amnesty to separatists within Ukraine and provide safe passage back to
Russia to those Russian militants operating in eastern Ukraine,” he said
at a briefing on Monday.
He said that obviously, Poroshenko was ready to do a lot to try to
resolve the situation and restore peace and security throughout the
country.
Earnest also said that to make it happen it was necessary to cooperate with the Russian president.
