You're reading: US will continue to support Ukrainian authorities, still believes there is diplomatic solution to crisis

Washington - Washington continues to believe that there's no military resolution to the Ukraine crisis and still hopes that the concerns could be addressed diplomatically, spokesman for the U.S. Department of State Jeff Rathke said.

“Now the United States continues to believe that there’s no military resolution to the crisis. Our focus from the outset has been to support Ukraine and to pursue a diplomatic solution that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. And we’ve worked closely with our partners in Europe and around the world to help accomplish this. But at the same time, Ukraine has a right to defend itself against this continued aggression, and the United States, as you’re no doubt aware, is providing about $116 million in security assistance to help Ukraine in this effort,” he said.

Rathke said that this assistance also includes advising and training, and the United States will continue to send advisory teams to Kyiv to help improve Ukraine’s combat medical care and to identify areas for additional security assistance.

“Therefore, we are continuing to assess how best to support Ukraine. Of course, our focus remains on pursuing a solution, and we will continue to support Ukrainian authorities to that end,” the spokesman stressed.
