You're reading: Uzbekistan Airways closing office in Kyiv

The press service of the Uzbek Embassy to Ukraine reported that Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Ukraine Alisher Abdualiyev confirmed the start of the closure procedure.

The ambassador said that the office will be closed as there have been no direct flights between the capitals of the two countries since May 2015.

“Our airline from May has been waiting for receiving permit to service regular flights to Kyiv once a week from the Ukrainian aviation authorities under parity conditions. We said that as long as the stable flow of air transportation is restored and demand for direct passenger flow is increased, Uzbekistan would present the initiative to increase the frequency of flights,” the ambassador said.

He said that the closure of the route by Ukraine is not line with the conditions of the agreement signed by the governments of the two countries on air communication and cooperation in air transport.

“Despite the fact that the Ukrainian government two months ago made a statement that urgent measures to restore air communication between Uzbekistan and Ukraine have been taken, these statements were not realized by the authorized ministries and agencies of Ukraine. There is a chance of stopping the process and avoid the full stoppage of air communication between Uzbekistan and Ukraine,” Abdualiyev said.
