You're reading: Vehicle production in Ukraine in June down by three times on May

The Ukrainian manufacturers of motor vehicles, according to preliminary data, in June cut production by three times compared to May of this year and by 3.7 times compared to June 2013, to 1,226 units, according to the Ukrautoprom association.

As reported, the monthly drop in production of vehicles in the current year has been fixed for the third consecutive month, although in May it decreased by 20% compared to April, and in April by 15% on March.

A significant drop in production in June compared to May was due mainly to the reduction of passenger car output by 3.5 times, to 1,009, which is also 4.2 times less than in June 2013.

Production of trucks last month decreased by 42.2% compared to May of the current year and by 26.2% compared to June last year, totaling 104 units. An upwards trend was seen only in the production of buses, which grew by 2.1 times compared to May of this year (but decreased by 47.7% compared to June last year), totaling 113 units.

According to the association, the largest number of cars in June was made by Zaporizhia Automobile Plant (ZAZ) – 716 vehicles, or 71% of the total output of this type of transport in Ukraine, but compared to the previous month their production was down by 2.6 times.

AvtoKrAZ continues to keep leadership in the production of trucks – in June it produced 102 vehicles, which is 7.4% more than in May, while the share of AvtoKrAZ in the total output of commercial vehicles in June was 98%.

The Chernihiv car plant of Etalon Corporation leaded in bus production in June, it manufactured 65 buses (58% of the June production of buses in Ukraine).

Given these figures of auto production in June, in the first half of 2014 the rate of growth of vehicle output slowed to 30.5%, amounting to 23,825 units.

The production of passenger cars increased by 34.7%, to 22,561, commercial cars – by 24.2%, to 825, while bus production fell by 48%, to 439.

The leaders of the auto industry in the first half of the year in the passenger car segment was ZAZ with 10,622 cars and a 28.5% rise on the first half of 2013, in the commercial segment – AvtoKrAZ with 479 produced trucks (48.8% up), in terms of buses – Cherkasy Bus (143 buses, an increase of 22%).

According to statistics from the association, the leader of the auto industry, ZAZ, in January-June generally manufactured 10,942 vehicles, increasing the production of passenger cars by 28.5%, commercial cars – by 48.2%, to 289, but reducing bus output by 3.2 times, to 31 units.

In June the plant reduced production by 2.7 times compared to May, to 718 units due to the reduction in the output of passenger cars by 61.5%, to 716,000, and the production of only two commercial cars against 47 in May. The plant, like in May, did not produce buses (in June last year it made 16 units).

According to Honorary President of UkrAVTO Corporation Tariel Vasadze, under the current conditions the plant could halt operations in September.

Kremenchuk car assembly plant, part of AIS Group, ranked second over the six months in terms of production. The enterprise produced 7,349 cars via SKD, which is 4.4 times more than in the same period of 2013. At the same time, their manufacture in June fell sharply – by 7.4 times compared to May 2014, to 140 units, which is 3.6 times less than in June 2013.
