You're reading: Verkhovna Rada gives combatant status to ATO participants

A total of 234 MPs voted in favor of a corresponding law on amending Article 6 of the law "On the status of war veterans, guarantees of their social protection" (regarding the extension of the list of persons who are deemed to have participated in military actions) at the session on July 1.

According to the law, combatants include: servicemen (in reserve and liable for service) and employees of Ukrainian Armed Forces, National Guard, the Security Service of Ukraine, Foreign Intelligence Service and State Border Guard Service, junior enlisted and command personnel of the Interior Ministry, interior troops, employees of State Guard Directorate of the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection, other military formations created according to the law that protected Ukraine’s independency, sovereignty and territorial integrity, participated in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) and ensured its realization, as well as employees of enterprises, establishments and organizations that were involved in ATO.

The Cabinet of Ministers has the authority to define the procedure for giving combatant status to the above-mentioned persons.
