You're reading: Viktor Pinchuk: Crisis is a pit stop in a global race

Crisis provides each country with the opportunity to implement required reforms and, eventually, to outrun others in the global race, Victor Pinchuk, Yalta European Strategy founder and board member, Ukrainian businessman and public figure, said on opening the plenary sessions of the 9th Yalta Annual Meeting, his press service has reported.

Focusing attention on Andreas Gursky’s “Boxenstopp” photograph displayed in the hall, and comparing the modern world’s dynamism with Formula 1 racing, Victor Pinchuk said: “All countries are involved in a global race and are moving faster and faster. Pit stops empower us to change, so that we can accelerate.”

According to the YES Founder, pit stops are important not only for racers, but for entire countries as well.

“Those who were too slow may improve their positions in the race. Some racers fit new wheels, get refueled and outrun the rest. Other racers lose too much time and remain far behind. Let’s use the crisis as a pit stop so as to move faster after it,” he said.

Pinchuk expressed hope that the Yalta Annual Meeting would become a kind of an “intellectual pit stop” to supply new energy and new ideas.

The 9th Yalta Annual Meeting entitled “Ukraine and the World: Addressing Tomorrow’s Challenges Together” takes place in Yalta at the Livadia Palace, Ukraine, from 13-16 September 2012. More than 200 leaders from politics, business and society representing more than 20 countries will discuss major global challenges and their impact on Europe, Ukraine and the world.
