The number of cases of bribing voters at the 2014 early parliamentary elections in Ukraine is smaller than that at the 2012 elections, with the price for a vote ranging between Hr 50 and Hr 500, the Committee of Voters of Ukraine (CVU) has reported.

“There are many cases of bribery, but we believe there aren’t as many of them as in 2012… The price for a vote currently amounts to Hr 50 – Hr 500. It is lower than in 2012,” CVU Deputy Director General Natalia Lynnyk said at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday, Oct. 20.

She noted that “candidates in single-seat constituencies had gone to ‘cheaper’ districts” in Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

According to her, Hr 50 is the price for a vote in rural areas of Kirovohrad and Mykolaiv regions, while in urban areas of Cherkasy region it amounts to Hr 500.

The early elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will be held on Oct. 26.
