You're reading: Wage arrears in Ukraine in May 2012 down by 1.5%

The overall sum of wage arrears in Ukraine decreased by 1.5% in May 2012, to Hr 999.9 million, or 3% of the monthly wage fund, the State Statistics Service has said.

At the same time, wage arrears fell by 20.8% over the year.

As the statistics service reported, the highest decreases in the wage backlog in the period were registered in Ternopil region (18.1%), Kyiv region (16.7%), Cherkasy region (12.2%), Chernivtsi region (10.2%), Zakarpattia region (8.6%), and Donetsk region (8%).

Last month there was sharp growth in wage arrears in Zaporizhia region (11.4%), Kharkiv region (6.8%), Odesa region (2.6%), Khmelnytsky region (1%), and Crimea (2.1%).

The amount of wage arrears at operating companies, institutions and organizations was Hr 479.3 million, at those that are not economically active it was Hr 63.3 million, and at bankrupt enterprises it was Hr 457.2 million.

The highest wage debts were registered in industry (Hr 614.1 million), real estate (Hr 138.9 million), construction (Hr 99.25 million), transport and communications (Hr 45.7 million), housing and utilities (UAH 33.87 million), agriculture (UAH 25.8 million), trade and repairs of cars, household appliances (UAH 16.02 million), health care (Hr 6.48 million), and education (Hr 4.4 million).
