Washington does not yet possess information confirming the deaths of Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine, said the U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki on June 17.

Earlier on Tuesday, VGTRK journalist Igor Kornelyuk died from wounds
received in a mortar attack in Lugansk in eastern Ukraine. Later, the
body of video engineer Anton Voloshin was found. Cameraman Viktor
Denisov was not hurt.

“We have seen media reports about it [the death of Russian
journalists in Ukraine], but we do not have confirmation of this
information, or the details and reasons for the incident,” she said at a
briefing in Washington.

However, Psaki said that in case of confirmation of this information
the State Department “certainly expresses condolences to the families of
journalists.”

Furthermore, the spokeswoman stressed that Washington “calls on all
parties of the conflict in Ukraine to ensure the safety of journalists,”
covering the events in this country.
