Washington – Ukrainian authorities have the right to use decisive measures to provide order on their territory, White House spokesman Jay Carney said on April 15.

“The Ukrainian government has the responsibility to maintain law and order,” Carney said at a briefing in Washington.

Carney said that the best option in the present situation is the agreement of separatists who seized governmental buildings in the eastern part of Ukraine to end all resistance.

He also praised Kyiv for statements that authorities are ready to hold dialog with the dissatisfied residents and that they display restraint in the current situation.

Carney noted that these are not peaceful protesters, but armed people who act in the eastern part of Ukraine.

According to White House, Moscow directly and indirectly supports armed persons acting in Ukraine.

“Russia is supporting these efforts and involved in these efforts,” Carney said.

Carney repeated U.S. warnings for Russia to end the said support and engage in dialogue with the Ukrainian government.
