Ukraine will hold a presidential election on Jan. 17, its first since the 2004 democratic Orange Revolution vaulted Yushchenko and Prime MInister Yulia Tymoshenko into power on the strength of millions of Ukrainians who refused to accept an election rigged for Victor Yanukovych. Now, however, Yushchenko and Tymoshenko are struggling for their political lives as Yanukovych and his 2004 campaign manager, Sergiy Tigipko, pose strong challenges.
