You're reading: Woman dies as shell hits passenger bus in Donetsk

A woman was killed and a man was injured when a shell damaged a passenger bus in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, the city administration said on its Web site.

“A shell hit Passenger Bus No. 42 en route to the city center at the Bryketna stop in the Petrovsky district at 10.40 a.m. The driver has said that there were some ten people inside the bus at that moment. One woman was killed. The preliminary information available indicates that another person sustained a shrapnel wound. The Bus No. 42 route has now been changed. They are now heading to Mine No. 21,” it said.

The situation remained tense in Donetsk on Tuesday morning, Sep. 16. Shelling has caused destruction in the Petrovsky and Kuibyshevsky districts of the city.

Artillery strikes have disrupted power supplies to 17 electrical substations in the Petrovsky district, and nine in the Kuibyshevsky district, where a chemical plant is located. A total of 48 electrical substations across Donetsk are currently out of service.
