Ukraine wants to foster comprehensive cooperation with Greece, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"We are interested in having further comprehensive cooperation, and believe that there is considerable potential for this," Yanukovych said during a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas in Kyiv on Tuesday.

President Yanukovych noted that Greece is one of Ukraine’s leading economic partners.

According to the Ukrainian president, the growth of bilateral trade in commodities and services, which started last year, is continuing this year. In the first quarter of 2011, it increased by more than 90% compared to same period in 2010.

However, realization of the cooperation potential of the two countries requires more attention and closer relations, the Ukrainian president said.

Droutsas, in turn, conveyed an invitation from the president of Greece to President Yanukovych to visit Greece.

President Yanukovych confirmed his intention to make an official visit to this country in October.

"I am planning a visit [to Greece] this year," he said.
