You're reading: Yanukovych calls on Ukrainians for compromise

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has addressed the nation with a call for a dialogue and compromise, and pledged to make every effort to ensure public order. 

“I am calling for a dialogue, for compromise, for peace in our land,” Yanukovych said in his address to the Ukrainian people issued on Monday evening.

“I believe in the people of Ukraine. I believe in the wisdom of our people. And I am ready to serve faithfully and truthfully to the state and people, as long as I have strength and confidence of the people.”

Yanukovych said he would make every effort to ensure public order and protect the rights of civilians. He also said that he would use all legal and other methods envisaged by Ukrainian laws to ensure public peace and the security of Ukrainians.
