A criminal case on beating of a young woman by Roman Landik, a member of Luhansk City Council and the son of member of the Party of Regions faction at Ukraine's parliament Volodymyr Landik, is monitored by the Prosecutor General's Office and will be properly investigated, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"I know that a criminal case has been open, it is controlled by the Prosecutor General’s Office. I talked to the prosecutor general yesterday morning. The case will certainly be properly investigated," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

Speaking about the moral aspect of the matter, Yanukovych said: "Shame to the man, who raises his hand on a woman. He has certainly let down his father, who is having a hard time."

Yanukovych also predicted that the case would be investigated quickly.

The prosecutor’s office of Luhansk region opened a criminal case against member of Luhansk City Council Roman Landik on charges of disorderly conduct (Part 3 of Article 296) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on July 7.

Earlier media reported that Roman Landik beat up a young woman, who was seating at another table in a restaurant. This incident was recorded on the video and the clip was posted on the Internet.

The injured woman, aged 20, is currently staying at the neurological department of Luhansk hospital with concussion and bruises.
