Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said he is dissatisfied with the pace of the implementation of his social initiatives.

"I’m not happy with the current situation, with such slow progress in addressing these issues," he said at a meeting of the governing board of the Economic Reform Committee in Kyiv on Thursday.

Yanukovych said the issue concerned the provision of citizens with affordable housing, the introduction of reference prices for medicines, and an increase in pensions. At the same time, he said the mechanism for the implementation of these initiatives – through amendments to the state budget – had already been put into effect.

He also noted that the implementation of social initiatives was "an extremely important task for the authorities."

He said that the implementation of such initiatives would help improve the social protection of citizens and lead to economic growth.

"This is one of the multipliers of economic development," Yanukovych said.

He also warned officials about their personal responsibility for the implementation of all planned activities.

"Every executor should be personally responsible for controls over the implementation of all of these decisions and the terms of the implementation of all planned activities. Every manager who does not cope with this problem will get the decision, as they say, to do other things," Yanukovych said.

As reported, as a result of amendments to the state budget for 2012, it is planned to spend UAH 18.2 billion in additional revenues on the implementation of Yanukovych’s social initiatives.
