The format of Kyiv's participation in the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union should be determined at a meeting between the presidents of the Customs Union member-states, says Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

Asked about results of his March 4 negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the context of Ukraine’s cooperation with the Customs Union, Yanukovych said the two had discussed a possible format of Ukraine’s relations with the union.

“This work is continuing at the level of governments, and I have already issued a relevant instruction. It’s been said that this work should be done not only at the level of the Ukrainian and Russian governments, but this work will proceed with the Customs Union’s executive body, in which Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus are represented. This work should result in a meeting between the presidents of these countries, at which we will definitely discuss these issues and make appropriate decisions,” Yanukovych told journalists in Kaniv, Cherkasy region, on Wednesday.

It was reported earlier that Kyiv is willing to take part in the Customs Union’s activities in the so-called 3+1 format, without formally being its member.
