Warsaw - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has invited his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to attend the opening of the reconstructed Olympiysky National Sports Complex in Kyiv.

"I invited President Komorowski and Prime Minister Tusk to the opening of the Olympiysky stadium, which will host the Euro 2012 final," he said at a press briefing on Thursday after meeting with Komorowski.

"It is a common deed that we are doing together. I will say frankly: such friendly competition has led to the fact that we are seeking to achieve quality in these sports facilities, and we understand quite well that they will serve future generations," Yanukovych said.

Komorowski, in turn, thanked Yanukovych for the invitation.

"I will think with Prime Minister Tusk about how to highlight the presence of Poland during such an important moment in Kyiv," he said.

"This may indicate that football can have a significant impact on the course of political events," Komorowski said.

Ukraine is planning to open the Olympiysky National Sports Complex in Kyiv on October 8 and the Euro 2012 stadium in Lviv on October 29. The Donbass Arena in Donetsk and the Metalist Regional Sports Complex in Kharkiv were commissioned in 2009.

Yanukovych is on a working visit to Poland on September 28-29. He will attend the EU’s Eastern Partnership summit and hold a number of bilateral meetings.
