Warsaw – Kyiv will insist that the prospect of EU membership be included in the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"The association agreement is very important to our state, and we insisted and we will continue to insist that the prospect of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union be reflected in this agreement," he said at a briefing in Warsaw on Thursday after meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Yanukovych said that the Ukrainian side was aware of all upcoming difficulties related to the ratification of the relevant documents by national parliaments.

"We understand quite well that during the ratification of these agreements, these issues will be discussed by each of the European countries, the parliaments of these countries, and this question will be very sensitive for our side," he said.

At the same time, Yanukovych said that he was sure that Ukraine’s partners in Europe, especially Polish friends, "understand the progress that is now being made on this path."

He expressed confidence that the holding of the Eastern Partnership summit would open a new path for the development of trade and economic relations and EU integration processes in Ukraine.
