Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych on Thursday met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, Presidential Administration Deputy Head Hanna Herman has told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to Herman, the Ukrainian president at the meeting with Ashton noted that "he has cut living expenses of the Presidential Administration by 20%."

Herman said that Yanukovych at the meeting with Ashton assured that he would cut expenses "on bureaucracy" in Ukraine in the future and give "the released funds" to the poor.

At the same time, Yanukovych stressed that 20% of people in Ukraine are on the verge of poverty.

Interfax-Ukraine earlier learned that Yanukovych plans on Thursday to meet with the heads of missions from the United States, Russia, Poland, and Belarus. At the same time, an Interfax-Ukraine source said that the times of the meetings could be revised.
