Yanukovych meets with president of Afghanistan

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has met with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai in Chicago.
The presidents discussed bilateral cooperation, according to the Ukrainian president's press service. The official delegations of the two countries also took part in the meeting.The sides decided to form an intergovernmental commission soon, Yanukovych told reporters.
"We tackled a wide range of cooperation issues, which we will start realizing in the near future, and issues related to various infrastructure facilities – transport and energy - in Afghanistan. I'm referring to repairs of Soviet-era military equipment," the president said.
Yanukovych also said that working groups would be formed within the intergovernmental commission that will be charged with overseeing various cooperation directions."We have proposals that [Afghanistan] is unlikely to reject," the president said.
The Ukrainian president also said Ukraine is not only contributing to the peacemaking mission of NATO in Afghanistan, but is also protecting its economic interests in this country.The sides also agreed to hold high-level meetings, according to the president.
