You're reading: Yanukovych meets with WAN-IFRA president

The creation of economic preconditions for the work of free and independent media in Ukraine is an important task of the authorities, and they are working in this direction, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said during a meeting with President of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) Jacob Mathew and President of Ukrainian Association of Press Publishers Borys Lozhkin.

According to the president’s press service, Chairman of the State
Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee of Ukraine Oleksandr
Kurdynovych was also present at the meeting.

The meeting took place before the opening of the 64th World Newspaper Congress and the 19th World Editors Forum in Kyiv.

Mathew thanked Yanukovych for the assistance he gave in the
organization and holding of the 64th World Newspaper Congress and the
19th World Editors Forum in the capital of Ukraine. He said that
representatives of the world’s leading printed media came to take part
in the events.

The participants of the meeting discussed current challenges facing the international community.
