You're reading: Yanukovych: Most sections of draft association agreement with EU already agreed

Most sections of the draft agreement on association between Ukraine and the European Union have already been agreed at the level of experts, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said in his state of the nation address in parliament.

"The EU and Ukraine have currently outlined the disputable provisions of a future agreement, and most of them are technical in nature. There are also issues that require certain political arrangements and the search for mutually acceptable compromise," he said.

In particular, the issue concerns tariff restrictions on agricultural goods, Yanukovych said.

According to the text of the address, among other provisions on the creation of a free trade area that need to be agreed are the instruments of trade protection, first and foremost, anti-dumping policy, trade-related aspects of energy, the protection of geographical indications, as well as the influence of social and economic policies on trade.
