Ukraine attaches great importance to cooperation with other countries in the space sector, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

At a meeting with Head of State Space Agency of Ukraine Yuriy Alekseyev and President of the Aerospace Society of Ukraine Vitaliy Zholobov in Kyiv on Friday, Yanukovych noted that there are currently certain problems in some space projects involving Ukraine

According to the president, more time is needed to clear up the situation in a range of programs that Ukraine is carrying out together with Russia and Kazakhstan.

Yanukovych noted there was progress in cooperation between Ukraine and Brazil in the Cyclon-4 Rocket and Space Complex construction at Alcantara Space Center.

“We’re building the Alcantara Space Center … Not always everything goes as fast as we would like. But nevertheless we are making progress, always keeping in touch,” Yanukovych said.

The president also noted that Ukraine is a space state and made a significant contribution to space exploration in its time.

Ukraine and some other former Soviet countries observe the Cosmonautics Day on April 12, marking the first manned space flight made in 1961 by Yuri Gagarin.
