You're reading: Yanukovych: Observers say Ukraine election passed off well technically

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has thanked all voters who cast their ballots in the country's recent parliamentary election, pledging to tackle all problems detected by electoral observers.

“I am pleased that most Ukrainian and international observers, including the OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] have tentatively concluded that the elections passed off smoothly from a technical standpoint. The voters were presented with a wide choice of candidates. The observers spoke about the voting process positively,” Yanukovych was quoted as saying by his press service on Monday, October 29.

The Ukrainian authorities will work together with the international community to fix all problems pointed out by observers and make subsequent elections even more democratic, the president said.

He thanked all voters who demonstrated their proactive civic position and voted for Ukraine’s future at this election.

“I congratulate the people of Ukraine on this important step in the development of our free, independent and democratic state,” he said.
