You're reading: Yanukovych offers condolences to Putin over coalmine accident in Komi

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has offered condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin over an accident that occurred in the Vorkutinskaya coalmine in the Komi Republic on Monday. 

“With deep sorrow Ukraine reacted to the news about the accident in the Vorkutinskaya coalmine on February 11,” reads the Ukrainian president’s address to his Russian counterpart.

Yanukovych also conveyed condolences to friends and relatives of the miners that were killed in the accident and wished the miners that were injured in the accident get well soon.

As reported, 17 people were killed and one miner went missing as a result of the accident in the Vorkutinskaya coalmine on February 11, 2013.
