You're reading: Yanukovych preparing for another visit to Turkmenistan

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Foreign Minister of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara have discussed the preparations for an upcoming state visit to Turkmenistan by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. 

The sides discussed the issue during a meeting in Turkmenistan, according to the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

“Special attention was paid during the meeting to the preparations for a state visit by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to Turkmenistan. Both sides expressed hope that the visit would additionally stimulate the development of broad-ranging and mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and Turkmenistan,” reads the statement.

The president of Turkmenistan said he appreciates the current level of relations with Ukraine, which has was achieved by the sides in the recent years in particular “thanks to close personal contact with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.”

Berdimuhamedov also congratulated Ukraine’s foreign minister on his chairmanship for the OSCE and expressed hope that the existing friendly relations between Ukraine and Turkmenistan would contribute to the countries’ cooperation within international organizations, including the UN and the OSCE.

Yanukovych made a working visit to Turkmenistan in early December 2012. His state visit to the country is scheduled for February 2013.
