Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has called on Ukrainians to be decisive in their fight against any attempt to revive totalitarian ideologies and intolerance on ethnic grounds.

“The tragedy of the Holocaust is a lesson for the entire humanity and
a warning regarding the danger of the spread of xenophobia and biased
attitudes to representatives of other peoples and cultures. Noting the
memory of innocent victims, we must be decisive in our fight against any
attempts to revive totalitarian ideologies and intolerance on ethnic
grounds,” reads an address on the occasion of International Holocaust
Remembrance Day, which was published on the Web site of the head of
state on Sunday.

Yanukovych said that as president, he will do everything to ensure
that “an atmosphere of tolerance, mutual understanding and concord
reigns” in Ukraine.
