Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Thursday sent to the Verkhovna Rada a draft new Criminal Procedure Code, the adviser to the president and head of the presidential administration's department for judicial system, Andriy Portnov, has said.

"The head of state has just sent to the Verkhovna Rada a new draft Criminal Procedure Code. This is an international obligation which Ukraine undertook in 1995," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to the president’s adviser, this document has undergone two international expert examinations and 95-98% of the proposals of international experts were taken into account.

Portnov said that the bill was submitted to parliament as a priority one.

The presidential administration expected that it will be passed at first reading in early February 2012, adopted as a whole in late February and submitted to president for signing in early March.
