Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will make a working visit to the United States on September 24-27 to attend the 67th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the president's press service has said.
Before the departure the Ukrainian president prayed before the Shroud of the Theotokos at Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
The 67th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations opened on September 19 in New York.
The General Assembly is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations. Comprising all 193 Members of the United Nations, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter. Decisions on important questions, such as those on peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary matters, require a two-thirds majority. Decisions on other questions are by simple majority.
The agenda of the 67th session will include the following topics: promotion of sustained economic growth and sustainable development in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and recent United Nations conferences, the maintenance of international peace and security, the development of Africa, etc.
