Kyiv and Beijing have signed agreements and contracts worth $3.5 billion during Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

"According to preliminary calculations, the agreements, projects and contracts signed during the [Chinese leader’s] visit are estimated at about $3.5 billion," he said after extended talks with Hu in Kyiv on Monday.

Yanukovych recalled that during the visit, the sides had signed a declaration on the establishment and development of strategic relations between Ukraine and China, as well as intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements and commercial contracts in the energy and trade sector, as well as on the opening of Ukraine’s consulate general in China.

He said that in general, he was satisfied with the talks with the Chinese leader and praised the agreements reached by the sides.

The Chinese leader’s visit to Ukraine started on June 18 and will end on June 20.

Hu’s visit is the first visit by a Chinese leader to Ukraine for a decade.
