Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said during a meeting in Kyiv with his Cypriot counterpart that Ukraine and Cyprus want to intensify their bilateral cooperation.

"Your visit to Ukraine is convincing proof that our states are seeking to strengthen cooperation. I am convinced that we will have something to talk about today," Yanukovych said at a tete-a-tete meeting with Cypriot President Demetris Christofias in Kyiv on Monday, the press service of the Ukrainian president reported.

Yanukovych thanked Christofias for accepting the invitation to visit Ukraine. He also noted the symbolism of the current visit, as this is the first time a Cypriot president has visited Ukraine in the history of the two countries’ bilateral relations.
