Ukraine will make every effort to win its bid to stage the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in the Carpathian Mountains, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"We should objectively work on promoting the initiative to hold the 2022 Winter Olympics in the Carpathians," he said in an annual address to the Ukrainian people at the Ukraina Palace on Thursday.

Yanukovych said that preparations for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship were "an impetus to the formation of new conditions for doing business and an integral part of internal changes in the country’s modernization."

"This is a step to a new quality of a dialog between business and the authorities, a new way of thinking, and new economic dynamics," Yanukovych said.
