Ukraine will fulfill the obligations it undertook while joining the Council of Europe, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said at a meeting with co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin and Mailis Reps.

“We realize that the obligations Ukraine undertook while joining the Council of Europe will be gradually fulfilled. That’s our task,” the head of state said.

The president added that cooperation between Ukraine and the CoE was proceeding. In particular, the Constitutional Assembly cooperates with the Venice Commission and active work continues on the implementation of the action plan until 2014, which was approved jointly with the CoE.

“We’re working persistently on the implementation of the action plan, which was approved together with the Council of Europe until 2014,” Yanukovych said.

The president said all branches of power of Ukraine have to work hard in order to fulfill the country’s obligations.

“This work is a common task for all branches [of power] in Ukraine, and I personally oversee the issue,” Yanukovych said.
